The Char Dham Yatra is a significant pilgrimage circuit in Hinduism, consisting of four sacred sites nestled in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. Each of these sites holds immense religious significance and is dedicated to a specific deity:

Yamunotri: Situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters above sea level, Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River and is dedicated to the goddess Yamuna. The temple here is said to have been constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal.

Gangotri: Located at an altitude of 3,100 meters, Gangotri is the source of the river Ganges and is dedicated to the goddess Ganga. It is believed that King Bhagirath meditated here to bring the divine Ganges from heaven to earth.

Kedarnath: Perched at an altitude of 3,583 meters, Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India and is believed to have been built by the Pandavas after the Mahabharata war.

Badrinath: Situated at an altitude of 3,133 meters, Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, specifically in his form as Badrinarayan. The temple here is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams (holy abodes of Vishnu).

The Char Dham Yatra holds immense spiritual significance for Hindus, who undertake this pilgrimage to seek blessings, cleanse themselves of sins, and attain salvation. The journey usually starts from Yamunotri, proceeding to Gangotri, then Kedarnath, and finally concluding at Badrinath. The yatra typically takes several days to complete and involves trekking through rugged terrain and high altitudes. It’s not just a physical journey but also a deeply spiritual one, with devotees immersing themselves in prayer, meditation, and rituals along the way.
